Denoon Saloon

This building that stands today at Denoon beach was originally the Smith's Hotel.
The present building was erected in 1912 after the former building on the same sight burned. It was in this era that the resort hotel saw it's busiest days.

The glassblowers from Milwaukee would come in large groups on weekends to enjoy the peace and quite that the resort provided. It was a thirteen room hotel, complete with tavern, hall, grocery store and ice cream parlor.
For some years it served as the Post Office and for a number of summers it was a place where lake residents would go to pay their taxes.
The resort would send horse drawn wagons and later a bus to meet the interurban as it stopped at Muskego Dam Road near the present Highway 36 intersection today.

Besides the beach, the resort rented cottages and had a fleet of 20 boats for rent.
These boats were built by John Paepke from 1924 through 1940, they
rented for 50 cents an hour or a $1.00 per day.
Ben Schuler bought the resort in the 1920's and his son Steve ran it up until the late 1960's. It is interesting to note that in the early days it cost $15.00 a
week for a room and meals at the hotel
